We all win big at Fall into 50! An art photo auction, live music, and bomber door prizes, too
By Dawnell Smith
Like every small but mighty nonprofit, Trustees for Alaska raises funds all year to keep the lights on and the lawyers in court, but we rarely hold auctions. This year is different. It’s our 50th anniversary, for one thing; and in June we worked with Tundra Travels in getting supporters to Gates of the Arctic with our legal director Teresa Clemmer and photographer Carl Johnson.
That trip inspired the upcoming auction. Now an award-winning photographer who also teaches others, Carl used to work as a Trustees attorney and has supported us ever since. He offered an array of his photos for a nature photography auction for our Fall into 50 anniversary party on Sept. 22.
Over twenty prints of varied sizes and subjects will be in the mix with Alaska landscapes and wildlife taken in the Arctic and Bristol Bay region, including a few from the recent Gates of the Arctic trip; the photos will vary from 8×10 matte prints to 20×30 framed ones.
The auction will help support Trustees during a celebratory shindig that will include live music, lawn games, and food and drinks starting at 4 pm Sunday, Sept. 22, at Kincaid Chalet. The silent auction will begin at 4 pm and close at 5:30 pm. Singer songwriter Witty Youngman will perform at 4:25 pm and 6:10 pm, and the live auction will fit between sets at 5:35 pm. There will be five larger prints in the live auction, all framed or printed on metal.
Everyone who shows up wins, because the $25 tickets include two sets of music with Witty, plus food, Cynosure beer, Zip Kombucha, wine, and lawn games, too. This year, all donors who contribute $25 or more will be part of a summer of 2025 Arctic trip giveaway. We’ll draw the lucky winner in December. Get your tickets now.
Plus, everyone who buys a ticket could win one of many bomber door prizes—like a Trustees’ hat or canvas bag, trucker hats from Patagonia, or a Patagonia black hole duffel bag. (Patagonia has supported Trustees for years and sent brand-new gear to support the party!)
Can’t wait to see you there!
You can join Carl Johnson in the field from March 16-21 during a trip that includes learning how to photograph winter landscapes and the aurora borealis, and doing some dog mushing. Learn more and book today!
